MechanicalConsulting.ca exists for one kind of owner: the person running a plumbing, heating, HVAC or combined mechanical contracting firm who knows the trade inside out and wants the business side to be as solid as the work. We help with pricing, job costing, crew planning, the mix of service and project work, the owner's own time, and preparing for an eventual exit.

The company

We are a Canadian firm with our head office in Vancouver, British Columbia, and one of the consulting brands in the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies. Our clients are mechanical contractors in every province and territory.

  • Sedighi.ca is the company through which Ali Sedighi does growth, marketing and technology consulting. Its stable of brands takes in HVAC.Agency, HVAC.Digital, Trades.Agency, BusinessConsulting.ca and Conv.ca.
  • SAZ.ca (Strategy & Acceleration Zone): Ali started this Canadian firm, and still runs it as Founder and Managing Partner, to handle strategy, AI and revenue acceleration; Sedighi.ca gives it strategic leadership.
  • BusinessConsulting.ca is the group's consulting practice. MechanicalConsulting.ca uses its published rates and terms.
  • BizSell.ca handles business sales and exits for the group, working with Sedighi.ca. An owner who is ready to sell or hand over goes there for valuation, buyer search, succession and deal structuring.

Ali Sedighi, MBA

Ali Sedighi earned his MBA in Technology Management and has been doing this work for 17+ years, since 2007, the year he founded ONE.ir, a full-service digital marketing agency. He now lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Since then he has started Conv.ca, an agency for conversion-rate optimisation, and MyAutomation.ca, alongside his role at SAZ.ca. His clients have been in Canada, the USA and Dubai.

Much of his recent work has been with heating and cooling companies. He has built 150+ live HVAC websites, including CombiBoiler.ca, GasBoilers.ca, HVACDeal.ca, CanroHeat.ca and BCWide.ca. That work keeps returning to the same questions this site is about: what a job is worth, what it costs to win, whether the crew can deliver it, and whether the owner can step back. What we do and what we do not do

We provide business and marketing consulting to mechanical contractors. That covers selling rates and bid pricing, job costing routines, capacity and hiring plans, service-mix decisions, delegation and management structure, and exit preparation.

We are clear about the boundaries, because they protect you:

  • We are a consulting service, not a technical one: no engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services, and no installation or repair work.
  • We do not prepare financial statements or file taxes. Your accountant does; we work with the numbers they produce.
  • We do not give legal, securities or real-estate advice. Contracts, share sales and property go to your lawyer.
  • We name and link provincial regulators on our region pages, but we do not advise on compliance. If a question is about licensing or safety codes, ask the regulator.

How an engagement works

  1. A first conversation. Thirty minutes, free and with no obligation, online by video call, in person, or by phone. You describe the business and the problem; we ask about revenue, crew size and how you price today.
  2. A written scope. If there is a fit, you get a short proposal: the problem, what we will deliver, the timeline, the fee and the payment schedule. Nothing starts until you agree to it.
  3. Data, then findings. We ask for payroll, job and financial reports, then come back with what the numbers say, usually within the first two or three weeks.
  4. Changes you own. Every deliverable, from rate sheets to the hiring calendar and owner dashboard, is yours to keep and run.
  5. A review. We check the results against the measures agreed at the start, then decide together whether to stop, continue on a retainer or tackle the next problem.

There is no lock-in. Notice periods and payment terms are set out in writing in your proposal.

Why mechanical contractors

Mechanical firms combine the hardest parts of service businesses and construction businesses. A single company can run emergency calls on Tuesday morning and a six-month commercial installation in the afternoon, with different margins, cash cycles and people for each. Few general business advisers understand that mix, and few trade-focused advisers look at the numbers closely. We sit between the two.

Frequently asked questions

Who will I actually work with?

You talk with a senior strategist from the very first call, and the practice is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA. Who works on your file is named in your written proposal.

Do you have engineering or trade credentials?

No, and we do not claim them. Our work is business and marketing consulting. Technical, design and code questions belong with qualified professionals and your provincial regulator.

Where are you based?

We are headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, and work with mechanical contractors across Canada, online by video call and in person.

How is this connected to BusinessConsulting.ca?
